If you’re searching for an easy weeknight pasta recipe, a creamy garlic pasta, or a quick dinner idea the whole family will love, this one deserves a spot in your regular dinner rotation.

Why You’ll Love This Creamy Garlic Pasta

There is something magical about a bowl of creamy pasta after a busy day. This recipe checks all the boxes:

  • Quick: Dinner can be on the table in about 30 minutes.
  • Simple: You only need a handful of everyday ingredients.
  • Flavorful: Garlic Olive Oil adds rich garlic flavor without the chopping, peeling, or sticky fingers.
  • Customizable: Add chicken, shrimp, vegetables, mushrooms, or crispy bacon.
  • Comforting: Creamy sauce + pasta + Parmesan. Need we say more?

The Secret Ingredient: Garlic Olive Oil

Instead of relying only on butter or plain cooking oil, this recipe starts with Garlic Olive Oil. It gives the creamy sauce a delicious savory base and distributes that garlic flavor throughout every twirl of pasta.

It’s one of those pantry staples that can make a simple dinner taste special. Use it for pasta, roasted vegetables, bread dipping, mashed potatoes, pizza, chicken, marinades, and so much more.

What Kind of Pasta Should You Use?

We love this recipe with fettuccine because those wide noodles hold onto the creamy garlic sauce beautifully. Linguine, spaghetti, tagliatelle, penne, or rigatoni will work too.

Translation: if there’s pasta in the pantry, dinner is still happening.

How to Make Creamy Garlic Weeknight Pasta

Start by cooking your pasta in generously salted water until al dente. Before draining it, save some of that pasta water. It's liquid gold for creamy pasta sauces because the starch helps everything come together.

While the pasta cooks, warm Garlic Olive Oil in a large skillet. Add the cream and gently simmer before stirring in freshly grated Parmesan cheese. A splash of reserved pasta water helps create a smooth, silky sauce.

Add the cooked pasta directly to the skillet and toss until every noodle is coated. Finish with freshly cracked black pepper, parsley, and an extra sprinkle of Parmesan.

Then grab a fork and prepare for some serious pasta twirling.

Easy Add-Ins for Your Pasta

This creamy pasta is delicious exactly as written, but it also makes a fantastic starting point for cleaning out the refrigerator.

  • Grilled or rotisserie chicken
  • Sautéed shrimp
  • Baby spinach
  • Roasted broccoli
  • Sautéed mushrooms
  • Peas
  • Sun-dried tomatoes
  • Crispy pancetta or bacon

You can even put several toppings on the table and let everyone build their own bowl.

Don't Skip the Pasta Water!

Before you drain your pasta, scoop out about one cup of the cooking water. You probably won't need all of it, but having it nearby lets you adjust the sauce.

If your creamy sauce becomes too thick, add pasta water a tablespoon or two at a time until it reaches that glossy, cling-to-the-noodle consistency we're after.

What to Serve with Creamy Garlic Pasta

Keep dinner simple with a crisp green salad, roasted vegetables, or warm crusty bread. And if that bread happens to get brushed with a little Garlic Olive Oil before toasting? Even better.

For a cozy dinner with friends, add a bottle of wine and suddenly your Wednesday night is feeling surprisingly fancy.

A Weeknight Dinner Worth Repeating

The best recipes aren't always the complicated ones. They're the dishes you can remember, make again and again, and customize based on what you have on hand.

This Creamy Garlic Weeknight Pasta is exactly that kind of recipe: quick enough for Tuesday night, delicious enough for company, and comforting enough that someone may mysteriously wander back into the kitchen looking for "just one more bite."

Creamy Garlic Weeknight Pasta

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fettuccine or pasta of choice
  • 2 tablespoons Garlic Olive Oil

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, plus more for pasta water

  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup reserved pasta water, as needed

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

  • Extra Parmesan cheese for serving

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of generously salted water to a boil.
  2. Add the pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente.

  3. Before draining, reserve about 1 cup of the pasta cooking water. Drain the pasta and set aside.

  4. Heat the Garlic Olive Oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat.

  5. Add the heavy cream and gently simmer for 2 to 3 minutes. Avoid bringing the cream to a rapid boil.

  6. Reduce the heat to low. Gradually stir in the Parmesan cheese until the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth.

  7. Add the black pepper and salt.

  8. Stir in about 1/4 cup of the reserved pasta water.

  9. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss until the noodles are completely coated in the creamy garlic sauce.

  10. If the sauce is too thick, add additional pasta water 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

  11. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and additional Parmesan cheese.

  12. Serve immediately and prepare for requests for seconds!
