Grab your favorite skillet, pour yourself something delicious, and let's make a dinner everyone will be asking for again!

One Pan, Plenty of Flavor, and Very Little Cleanup!

Let's be honest, after a long day, nobody wants a mountain of dishes waiting in the sink. That's one of the reasons we love this creamy garlic chicken orzo recipe so much!

Everything cooks together in one skillet, allowing the orzo to soak up all those wonderful flavors from the chicken, garlic, broth, and herbs. As the pasta cooks, it releases starch that naturally helps create a silky, creamy sauce.

And unlike traditional pasta dishes that require a separate pot of boiling water, this recipe keeps things simple. Just one pan, a handful of everyday ingredients, and about 35 minutes between you and a delicious homemade dinner.

The Secret to Incredible Flavor: Garlic Olive Oil

We all know garlic makes just about everything better, right? But when you start with a really good garlic-infused olive oil, something wonderful happens.

Our Garlic Olive Oil adds a rich, savory garlic flavor throughout this dish, from the beautifully golden chicken to the creamy Parmesan sauce.

And the best part? Garlic Olive Oil is one of those kitchen staples you'll find yourself reaching for again and again. It's fantastic for roasted vegetables, homemade garlic bread, pasta dishes, marinades, and even a simple bowl of warm bread for dipping.

If you're looking for an easy way to add a little extra flavor to everyday cooking, this is one bottle you'll definitely want in your kitchen!

What Makes This Creamy Chicken Orzo So Delicious?

The beauty of this recipe is how a few simple ingredients work together to create something that tastes wonderfully indulgent.

  • Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts: Tender pieces of chicken add hearty protein and make this a satisfying one-pan meal.
  • Garlic Olive Oil: Adds delicious garlic flavor and helps create a beautifully golden sear on the chicken.
  • Orzo Pasta: This small, rice-shaped pasta cooks right in the skillet, absorbing the savory broth and creating a wonderfully creamy texture.
  • Fresh Garlic & Shallots: Add aromatic depth and a little sweetness to the sauce.
  • Chicken Broth: Gives the orzo a rich, savory foundation as it cooks.
  • Heavy Cream: Adds a silky, luxurious finish without requiring a complicated sauce.
  • Freshly Grated Parmesan: Melts into the sauce for that irresistible cheesy flavor.
  • Fresh Baby Spinach: Adds a beautiful pop of color and a little freshness to balance the richness.
  • Italian Seasoning & Lemon: Bring everything together with fragrant herbs and a touch of brightness.

Make It Your Own: Delicious Variations

One of the things we love most about this recipe is how easily you can change it up depending on what you have in the kitchen.

  • Make It Extra Veggie-Packed: Add sautéed mushrooms, roasted red peppers, or chopped asparagus along with the spinach.
  • Try Chicken Thighs: Boneless, skinless chicken thighs are wonderfully juicy and work beautifully in this recipe.
  • Add a Little Heat: Sprinkle in crushed red pepper flakes for a gentle kick.
  • Make It Lighter: Swap the heavy cream for half-and-half. The sauce won't be quite as rich, but it'll still be delicious!
  • Give It a Lemon Twist: Add a little extra lemon zest and fresh lemon juice for a brighter finish.
  • Switch Up the Protein: Try cooked shrimp or leftover roasted chicken for a different take on this creamy orzo dish.

Make-Ahead Tips & Leftover Love

While this creamy garlic Parmesan chicken orzo is definitely at its best served fresh, you can still do a little prep work ahead of time to make dinner even easier.

Cut and season the chicken, chop the shallot and garlic, and grate your Parmesan ahead of time. Store everything separately in the refrigerator until you're ready to cook.

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Because orzo continues to absorb liquid as it sits, the sauce will naturally thicken.

When reheating, add a splash of chicken broth, milk, or cream to bring back that lovely creamy texture. Warm gently on the stovetop, stirring occasionally, until heated throughout.

And here's a little tip: Freshly grated Parmesan melts much more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese, so it's worth the extra minute or two!

What to Serve with Creamy Garlic Parmesan Chicken Orzo

This dish is hearty enough to be a complete meal all on its own, but a few simple sides can make it feel like a special occasion.

Try serving it with a crisp green salad dressed with your favorite white balsamic vinaigrette, roasted broccoli, or warm, crusty garlic bread.

For a cozy dinner with friends, pair it with a simple appetizer and a glass of your favorite white wine. Something bright and refreshing is a wonderful contrast to the rich Parmesan sauce.

And if you're planning a fall or winter gathering, serve the skillet right at the table, sprinkle on a little extra Parmesan, and let everyone help themselves. Sometimes the simplest meals create the best memories!

Creamy Garlic Parmesan Chicken Orzo with Spinach Recipe at The Little Shop of Olive Oils

Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 tablespoons Garlic Olive Oil, divided
  • 1 teaspoon Little Italy Herb Blend ( or your preferred Italian seasoning)
  • ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 small shallot, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup uncooked orzo pasta
  • 2½ cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for serving
  • 2 cups fresh baby spinach, roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of Garlic Olive Oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken in a single layer and cook for 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Transfer to a plate and set aside.

  3. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the remaining tablespoon of Garlic Olive Oil and the diced shallot. Cook for 1–2 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, stirring constantly.

  4. Add the uncooked orzo to the skillet and stir for 1–2 minutes, allowing it to lightly toast and absorb the garlic-infused oil.

  5. Pour in the chicken broth and stir, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer uncovered for approximately 9–12 minutes, stirring frequently, until the orzo is tender and most of the broth has been absorbed. Add a splash of additional broth if needed.

  6. Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the heavy cream and freshly grated Parmesan cheese until smooth and creamy.

  7. Fold in the baby spinach and cook for 1–2 minutes, until wilted.

  8. Return the cooked chicken and any accumulated juices to the skillet. Add the lemon juice and gently stir until everything is well combined and heated through.

  9. Remove from the heat and garnish with freshly chopped parsley, extra Parmesan cheese, and freshly cracked black pepper. Serve immediately while warm and creamy.
