Savory Herb Scones
Share
These Savory Herb Scones are one of those recipes that feel a little special the moment they come out of the oven. They are tender, golden, and full of gentle herb flavor, with a rustic look that makes them just as pretty on the table as they are satisfying to eat.
What makes them especially nice is the use of Herbes de Provence Olive Oil. It brings a soft, savory herb note into every bite and gives the scones a wonderful texture without feeling heavy. They are lovely for brunch, alongside soup, or served with a salad for a light lunch.
At The Little Shop of Olive Oils, I always enjoy recipes like this because they take simple pantry ingredients and turn them into something warm, inviting, and full of character. These savory scones feel homey and comforting, but still a little different from the usual biscuit or dinner roll.
If you are looking for an easy savory scone recipe with herb flavor and a tender crumb, this is a wonderful one to keep on hand.

Ingredients
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tablespoon baking powder
-
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
-
3/4 teaspoon sea salt
-
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
-
1 tablespoon Herbes de Provence seasoning
-
1/2 cup grated Parmesan or sharp white cheddar
-
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
-
2 tablespoons chopped chives or green onion
-
1/3 cup Herbes de Provence Olive Oil
-
3/4 cup buttermilk
-
1 large egg
-
1 tablespoon milk or cream, for brushing tops
-
Optional: extra chopped herbs for tops
Directions
Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and Herbes de Provence seasoning.
Stir in the grated cheese, parsley, and chives.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the Herbes de Provence Olive Oil, buttermilk, and egg.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a round about 1 inch thick.
Cut into 8 wedges, or use a biscuit cutter for a more rustic round shape like the photo.
Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet.
Brush the tops lightly with milk or cream and sprinkle with extra herbs if desired.
Bake for 16 to 18 minutes, or until lightly golden and set.
Let cool slightly and serve warm.
Recipe Note
Make It Your Own:
- Use shredded Gruyere or feta in place of Parmesan
- Add finely chopped spinach for more color, similar to the photo
- Mix in a pinch of garlic powder for a deeper savory flavor
Tracey’s Notes:
These are such a nice savory bake when you want something warm and homemade without making a full loaf of bread. The Herbes de Provence Olive Oil gives them a soft herb flavor that works beautifully with the cheese and fresh herbs.
