Margarita Flatbread Pizza

Ingredients:

For the flatbread:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp Milanese Gremolata EVOO
  • Pinch of salt

For the pizza topping:

  • ½ cup Marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1 large tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1 to 2 balls fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves, torn or chopped
  • 1 tbsp Milanese Gremolata EVOO
  • 1 tbsp Neapolitan Herb Balsamic
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Optional:

  • Red pepper flakes
  • Parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions:

  • In a bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  • Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it is frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and salt, mixing to combine.
  • Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture and 1 tbsp Milanese Gremolata EVOO.
  • Mix the ingredients until they form a soft dough.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for around 5-7 minutes or until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, covering it with a clean kitchen towel.
  • Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  • Once the dough has risen, turn it out onto a floured surface.
  • Roll the dough out to your desired thickness, depending on whether you prefer thin or thick crust.
  • Place the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a pizza stone.
  • Brush the dough lightly with some Milanese Gremolata EVOO.
  • Spread a thin layer of Marinara or pizza sauce over the dough.
  • Arrange the tomato slices and fresh mozzarella slices on top of the sauce.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Once out of the oven, drizzle the pizza with Neapolitan Herb Balsamic and additional Milanese Gremolata EVOO.
  • Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  • Garnish with fresh basil leaves and optional red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese before serving.
  • Slice the Margarita Flatbread Pizza into pieces and serve immediately while it’s hot.

Notes:

  • You can also use store-bought flatbread or pizza dough if you are short on time.
  • You can adjust the quantities of toppings according to your preference.
