Ingredients:
For the flatbread:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup warm water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp Milanese Gremolata EVOO
- Pinch of salt
For the pizza topping:
- ½ cup Marinara or pizza sauce
- 1 large tomato, thinly sliced
- 1 to 2 balls fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves, torn or chopped
- 1 tbsp Milanese Gremolata EVOO
- 1 tbsp Neapolitan Herb Balsamic
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Optional:
- Red pepper flakes
- Parmesan cheese, grated
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
- Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it is frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and salt, mixing to combine.
- Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture and 1 tbsp Milanese Gremolata EVOO.
- Mix the ingredients until they form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for around 5-7 minutes or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, covering it with a clean kitchen towel.
- Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Once the dough has risen, turn it out onto a floured surface.
- Roll the dough out to your desired thickness, depending on whether you prefer thin or thick crust.
- Place the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a pizza stone.
- Brush the dough lightly with some Milanese Gremolata EVOO.
- Spread a thin layer of Marinara or pizza sauce over the dough.
- Arrange the tomato slices and fresh mozzarella slices on top of the sauce.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Once out of the oven, drizzle the pizza with Neapolitan Herb Balsamic and additional Milanese Gremolata EVOO.
- Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves and optional red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese before serving.
- Slice the Margarita Flatbread Pizza into pieces and serve immediately while it’s hot.
Notes:
- You can also use store-bought flatbread or pizza dough if you are short on time.
- You can adjust the quantities of toppings according to your preference.
