Q. Is it okay to deep fry foods with extra virgin olive oil?

Q. Is it okay to deep fry foods with extra virgin olive oil?

YES! It is a MYTH that using EVOO for frying foods is harmful to your health.

Here is what we know...

Frying with Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) can improve the taste of any food. It can be used in ALL applications of food...drizzled, sauteed, baked. and FRIED!  Pure cold pressed EVOO has health benefits and flavor not found in other oils.

It can be used in all applications of food, drizzled, sauteed, fried, and baked!

Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a SMOKE POINT of around 410 F.  SMOKE POINT refers to the temperature that causes a fat, like oil, to break down and can alter the taste of the oil and food being cooked in it in an adverse way.  (This only happens in my house when I get distracted, leave the kitchen while cooking and the smoke alarm goes off!) If you are frying french fries, for example, the temperature of the oil should be stable at between 350F -375F, until the fries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

In summary...Frying with good EVOO is great for an OCCASIONAL fried treat!  HOWEVER, a diet rich in fried foods only, is not healthy for your waistline, arteries, or heart!

There are many ways to enhance the flavor and health benefits of foods with EVOO without frying!

Try these healthier ways of using EVOO:

  • Broil fish with a drizzle of Lemon EVOO
  • Saute Veggies with Milanese Grem EVOO
  • Top Eggs with splash of White Truffle EVOO
  • Top Pizza with a drizzle of Tuscan EVOO

Substitute any EVOO for butter in baked goods
